Biography:
Tracey has dual qualifications as both a nurse and an ODP. She registered as a general nurse with the NMC in 1990. She has worked in theatres since 1992 and after completing various theatre nursing courses went on to complete her training as an operating department practitioner enabling her to register with the HCPC in 2000. She holds a 1st class honours degree in nursing, and a Master’s in Education (Professional Practice) and is a registered nurse teacher with the NMC and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Tracey is currently employed as a senior lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire where she delivers operating department practice modules and is course leader for the postgraduate perioperative programme. Tracey is also an external examiner for other university courses. To maintain clinical skills, Tracey has an honorary contract with a local NHS Trust.
Tracey is a partner with HCPC and sits on fitness to practice panels for ODP’s. She collaborates with NHS Improvement as group leader for writing standards for NatSSIPS relating to never events for perioperative practice.
From a clinical perspective, Tracey is particularly interested in CPD, mentorship, ODPs and wound care. She teaches all aspects of perioperative practice from foundation studies to advanced roles and across all three disciplines within the perioperative environment.
Tracey has been involved with AfPP since 1992, starting as branch secretary and progressing to Trustee. She is currently the chair of both the Governance Committee and Education Reference Group. Tracey is involved in the delivery of education for AfPP and regularly participates in regional study days. She delivers theatre access courses for industry representatives and has conducted audits of standards on behalf of AfPP.
